COW BOYS
Every year the cowboys come to town, rodeo-wise. Big hard men with a big hard job to do.
Along side them come their smaller versions, the cow boys – smaller, yes, but by no means less tough or less serious – until nobody’s looking and then they are just boys having fun.
The rodeo fraternity is small in New Zealand. I photographed in the back of the release pens over a period of a number of years. Every year I watched the boys growing into men - saw the camaraderie and the bonds of brotherhood.
